چکیده

Introduction: We have continued study of the chemical nature of late accreted materials to the Earth-Moon system by examining the highly sidero-phile elements (HSE: Ru, Pd, Re, Os, Ir, Pt) contained in lunar impact-melt rocks. The HSE contained in melt rocks were largely added to the Moon during the period of time from the origin of the lunar highlands crust (4.4-4.5 Ga) to the end of the late bombardment period (~3.9 Ga). These materials provide the only direct chemical link to the late accre-tionary period. The 187 Os/

Re-Os isotopic systematics and platinum group element composition of the Tagish Lake carbonaceous chondrite

The Tagish Lake meteorite is a primitive C2 chondrite that has undergone aqueous alteration shortly after formation of its parent body. Previous work indicates that if this type of material was part of a late veneer during terrestrial planetary accretion, it could provide a link between atmophile elements such as H, C, N and noble gases, and highly siderophile element replenishment in the bulk ...

Re-Os SYSTEMATICS AND HSE DISTRIBUTION IN METAL FROM Ochansk (H4) CHONDRITE

Introduction: Previous studies of the Re-Os systematics of chondrites have documented considerable variation in the Re/Os ratios of whole rock samples [1,2]. For some whole rock chondrites, Re-Os systematics display large deviations from the primitive isochron that are considerably larger than deviations in other isotope systems [1]. Possible interpretation of these facts is that the Re-Os syst...

Highly Siderophile Element Characteristics of Lunar Impact Melt Breccias: a Picture Begins to Emerge

Introduction: It has long been hypothesized that the Earth-Moon system, and likely the entire inner solar system, underwent a phase of late accretion, termed late heavy bombardment (LHB), within the interval of time from ~4.1 to ~3.8 Ga [1-3]. Although the putative LHB had a major effect on shaping the surface of the Moon, it likely involved much less mass than is envisioned for late accretion ...

Peridotites from Another Planet? Osmium Isotope and Highly Siderophile Element Constraints on the Evolution of Diogenites and the Hed Parent Body

Diogenites and 4 Vesta: Diogenite meteorites are orthopyroxene ± olivine rich rocks that form part of the howardite-eucrite-diogenite (HED) meteorite suite [1, 2]. The HED parent-body is thought to be the ~530 km diameter asteroid 4 Vesta [3, 4], target of the recently launched DAWN mission. Homogeneous Oisotope systematics for HED meteorites are consistent with wholesale melting of their paren...
